The afternoon light streamed through the dusty windows of the record store, illuminating the silence that hung in the air. The news from Olivia had hit him like a physical blow. The thought of her leaving, of their shared history being severed, left him feeling empty and depleted.

He ran a hand through his hair, the gesture conveying a deeper emotion than words could express. The music, usually a source of comfort and escape, felt muted and distant. He stood motionless, surrounded by the physical artifacts of their friendship, the albums they'd shared, the bands they’d both loved.

"So that's… that's it then?" he managed, his voice barely a whisper. Olivia’s explanation, about opportunity and growth, seemed distant and removed, the sound barely registering. He closed his eyes, and the silence crashed over him again.
